This is a blog designed to help you find and install all the
plugins you need for creating a successful multilayer minecraft server.
What you will need:
A Bukkit server is the most important part when creating a
server with plugins. And ordinary minecraft server, downloaded from the
minecraft website does not work.To use any mods you must install the Bukkit
server.
When you have installed the craftbukkit.jar file from www.bukkit.org, you should find a YouTube
tutorial on how to get the server up and running using a program called
hamachi.
For those of you that do not know what a plugin, A minecraft
plugin is a mod for minecraft. These are often used on servers and have been
proved to be extremely useful when create a server that might involve a certain
game mode, e.g. RPG. My own minecraft server includes several key plugins to
give it an RPG style game mode. The plugins I am currently running include a
virtual economy so that each player can gain or lose money. I have also
installed plugins such as the Iconomy chest shop that runs of the iconomy
plugin. This is used so that player can create ways to gain and lose money by
buying and selling items. I have also included in my server, the essentials
plugin, this allows you to give admins and opps extra commands. E.g. if an opp
or admin type /spawnmob zombie, then they have the ability to spawn mobs. Other
useful plugins include world edit. At first I did not want to install this mod in
case something goes horribly wrong. But after watching a few YouTube tutorials
and found out what it is capable of I soon gave in. world edit is able to
quickly destroy and build blocks using a wand tool (wooden axe). This can be
used to create flat land in seconds. A very important part when starting a minecraft server, is remembering that whenever minecraft is updated, most plugins need to be as well.
If you are having any problems when installing a plugin then please leave a comment.
This video will help you get started if you do not already have a bukkit server.
